Product descriptions

Three lengths — pick what fits your format. Copy as-is.

Short · ~30 seconds

ideaBraid is a desktop mind map that turns ideas into plans. AI-native (bring your own key — Anthropic, OpenAI, or local Ollama), privacy-first (no account, no cloud, your data stays on your machine), and built for action — the same map becomes a Board, a Gantt, and a Pitch presentation. macOS, Windows, Linux. $59 one-time.

Medium · ~60 seconds

ideaBraid is a desktop-native mind mapping tool that combines visual thinking with AI and project management. Built with Tauri for instant launch and offline use, it runs AI on your own API key (Anthropic, OpenAI, or local Ollama) — so there’s no subscription and no data leaves your machine. Beyond mind maps, the same document can be viewed as a Kanban board, a Gantt chart with dependencies, or a presentation via Pitch mode. Maps export to Markdown, OPML, ICS, CSV, PNG, SVG, and PDF, and every file uses the open .mind format — a zip archive you own forever. Available on macOS, Windows, and Linux. Free Reader always, a 7-day Editor trial, and a $59 one-time Editor license.

Long · ~90 seconds

ideaBraid is a privacy-first, AI-native desktop mind mapping application. Most thinking tools force a trade-off — cloud AI tools want your data and a monthly subscription, classic desktop mappers lack modern AI, and PM tools can’t think visually. ideaBraid brings all three together without the compromise.

It’s built with Tauri (not Electron), so it launches instantly at about 64MB and works fully offline. There’s no account, no login screen, and no telemetry. Every map is a .mind file — a zip archive you can inspect, back up, and own indefinitely.

AI runs on your terms: paste an Anthropic or OpenAI key, or run a local Ollama model. ideaBraid calls the provider directly — it never proxies prompts and never sees your data. Features include AI work breakdown, branch expansion, summarize, and free-form generation.

Beyond mind maps, the same document becomes a Kanban board, a Gantt with dependencies and critical path, a project dashboard, or a presentation via Pitch mode. 7 layout modes — right, balanced, org, timeline, fishbone, radial, and free-form — adapt the same content to different thinking styles.

The Reader tier is free forever (open, present, and export any .mind file). Editing is a $59 one-time license including one year of updates, with an optional $39/year renewal — the app keeps working either way. A 7-day full trial starts automatically. macOS, Windows, Linux.

Key features

AI work breakdown

Turn one node into a structured tree of subtasks, then refine each branch by hand.

Bring your own AI

Anthropic, OpenAI, or a local Ollama model. No subscription, no proxy — content is sent only when you run a command, only to the provider you chose.

Seven layouts

Right, balanced, org chart, timeline, fishbone, radial, and free-form — switch instantly, no re-drawing.

Free-form canvas

Drop nodes, sticky notes, and tables anywhere. Structured when you want it, loose when you don’t.

Project management built in

Every node can become a task with dates and assignees — then view it as a Board, a critical-path Gantt, or a live Dashboard. Same map, no export.

Pitch mode

Turn any map into a full-screen, keyboard-driven walkthrough.

Privacy-first

No account, no cloud, no telemetry. Maps are plain .mind files on your disk.

Desktop-native

Built with Tauri (not Electron) — a ~64MB app that launches instantly and works fully offline.

Open format & exports

Export to PNG, SVG, PDF, Markdown, OPML, ICS (calendar), and CSV. Every map is a .mind file you own.

Cross-platform

macOS 10.15+, Windows 10+, and Linux. A single license covers every platform.

How it’s different

vs. cloud AI tools

Notion AI, Taskade, and friends send your prompts and data to servers you don’t control — and charge monthly for it. ideaBraid runs AI on your own key, straight to Anthropic, OpenAI, or local Ollama. No proxy, no data collection. You pay the provider per token, typically less in a year than one month of a comparable AI subscription.

vs. classic desktop mind maps

XMind and MindNode haven’t caught up to modern workflows — no AI, no built-in PM, no free-form canvas, no presentation mode. ideaBraid adds AI scaffolding, multi-view project management, seven layouts, and an open file format that doesn’t lock you in.

vs. privacy-first PKM tools

Obsidian and Logseq are powerful but text-first; their graph view visualizes links, not thinking. ideaBraid is visual-first — real mind mapping with branches, layouts, sticky notes, and a shapeable canvas — with the same privacy commitment: local files, no account, your machine.

Talking points

Five angles that land on camera.

  1. 01
“It runs AI on your own API key.”

Most AI tools are SaaS that rent you access and see your data. This one is desktop-native and calls your provider directly — Anthropic, OpenAI, or local Ollama.

  2. 02
“No account. No subscription. No tracking.”

Three things missing from nearly every other tool in the space — by design, not omission.

  3. 03
    “One map, four views.”

Show the same document as a mind map, then a Board, a Gantt, and a Dashboard — no export, no second app. The clearest “aha” moment on camera.

  4. 04
    “Your files are open.”

A .mind file is just a zip. Unzip it in the terminal and the whole document is right there — no lock-in, ever.

  5. 05
    “Built solo, in public.”

A one-developer project shipped through disciplined, plan-by-plan development, backed by 1,056 automated tests.

The story

ideaBraid is an independent, one-developer project. It grew out of years of friction between cloud AI tools — privacy concerns and monthly fees — and traditional desktop mind mappers that never gained modern AI or planning features.

The app was built in public through disciplined, test-driven, plan-by-plan development, backed by 1,056 automated tests. ideaBraid is the answer to that friction: privacy-first, AI-native, and built for the way people actually plan.

FAQ for creators & press

Is there a sponsored-video requirement?

No. If you receive a license, it’s yours regardless. If you find the tool genuinely useful and want to share it, great — if not, no obligation and no strings.

What’s the pricing?

$59 one-time for the Editor license, including one year of updates and every platform. An optional $39/year renewal keeps updates coming — the app keeps working either way. There’s a free Reader forever, a 7-day full trial, and a 15-day money-back guarantee.

What’s the file format? Any lock-in?

A .mind file is a zip archive containing doc.bin (the document), snapshot.json, and meta.json. You can unzip and inspect it, and export to PNG, SVG, PDF, Markdown, OPML, ICS, or CSV anytime. No lock-in.

How does the AI handle my data?

AI runs on your own API key (Anthropic or OpenAI) or a local Ollama model. ideaBraid calls the provider directly — it never proxies your prompts and never stores them. There are no servers on our side.

Which platforms are supported?

macOS 10.15+, Windows 10+, and Linux (AppImage or .deb). One license covers every platform on your personal machines.
